Stardraw Control wins Innovations in Technology award

David Snipp, CEO (left) collects the NSCA Innovations in Technology award, Control Products category, from Mark Johnson, Editor, Sound & Video Contrator

We are delighted to announce that our newest application, Stardraw Control, was feted with a much-coveted Innovation in Technology award on the occasion of its worldwide launch at NSCA 2005. This is the second major trophy for Stardraw Control, which has already been honored with a PLASA Award for Innovation at its preview at London's PLASA show in September 04.

Stardraw's marketing director, Rob Robinson, explained the key features of Stardraw Control that set it apart from other control solutions. "Stardraw Control generates standalone, customized programs that can control any type of remotely-controllable equipment from any manufacturer using any protocol over any communications infrastructure. Instead of being locked into closed architectures wherever system control, monitoring or signal routing has been required, Stardraw Control offers systems integrators an open, software-based, unified control framework that can manage his entire system with a single application, regardless of system complexity. To our knowledge, no-one else offers such an innovative and flexible system, and to be shortlisted for the award from over 120 applicants was a great honor. To win by public vote is testament to the excitement that Stardraw Control has generated among manufacturers and systems integrators alike."

Like other Stardraw applications it is fast, powerful, flexible and easy to use; with a drag-drop interface and intuitive design environment, installers are able to configure systems and control them without having to write a single line of code. Utilization of Microsoft.net technology means that control programs are portable and can run on any Windows-enabled device, from PC to PDA. Importantly, Stardraw Control can communicate with and control any device using any protocol. Since support of particular protocols can offer access to thousands of products, Stardraw Control is almost infinitely flexible and scaleable. Protocols currently supported include TCP/IP, RS232, DMX, IR, EtherSound, CobraNET, infra-red, UDP, SNMP and QSC Net.

According to Stardraw.com CEO David Snipp, “With Stardraw Control we have developed an open system that is universally applicable. Manufacturers like it because it conforms to any standard or protocol they choose, and installers are excited because it breaks the constraints on product selection and application programming that you get with closed-architecture systems. This is a winner at every level.”

Stardraw Control RC1 Available for Download

We are pleased to announce the public availability of the first Release Candidate version of the award-winning application, Stardraw Control. During the test period, Stardraw is inviting manufacturers and systems specialists to become test partners in this exciting new project. In return, test partners are asked to provide as much detailed feedback as possible via the dedicated Stardraw Control forum that has been set up especially for this purpose.

New in Stardraw Control RC1:

  • Product Wizard
  • Use the simple, step-by-step wizard to create new products, define ports and assign functionality.  You can now add new devices to Stardraw Control and control them using any supported protocol.

  • Scripting
  • Stardraw Control now includes a script editing interface.  You can write drivers in C# which can in turn call any existing code. This means that you can add full support for any function on any device using RS232 or TCP/IP protocols.

Sample standalone control programStardraw Control generates standalone, customized control programs, offering a new approach to solving the problem of controlling heterogeneous systems; for too long, systems integrators have been locked into closed architectures wherever system control, monitoring or signal routing has been required. Stardraw Control, by contrast, offers a software-based, unified control framework that can manage any type of addressable equipment from any manufacturer over any communications infrastructure.

Like other Stardraw applications it is fast, powerful, flexible and easy to use; with a drag-drop interface and intuitive design environment, installers are able to configure systems and control them without having to write a single line of code. Utilization of Microsoft.net technology means that control programs are portable and can run on any Windows device, from PC to PDA. Stardraw Control can communicate with and control any device using any protocol including TCP/IP, RS232, DMX, Infra-Red, EtherSound, CobraNet, SNMP, UDP etc

Stardraw Control's open architecture means that manufacturers can offer software control without the overhead of developing exclusive (and limited) software applications for individual products, and since Stardraw Control communicates with any existing device-specific Application Programming Interface (API), manufacturers can add support of their products without changing existing code or adding new hardware. For the duration of the test period, Stardraw.com will undertake all work required to add support for products at no cost to the manufacturer. All the manufacturer has to do is supply a loan unit of the appropriate device with supporting documentation and Stardraw.com will do the rest.

For systems integrators this open, unified approach means that a single application can control many diverse products with as much or as little complexity as the end user needs.

Manufacturers like it because it conforms to any standard or protocol they choose, and installers are excited because it breaks the constraints on product selection and application programming that you get with closed-architecture systems. This is a winner at every level.”.  His view is supported by the major awards the application has won, including NSCA's Innovations in Technology, Control Products category, and PLASA'a Award for Innovation.

Stardraw Control supports Cirrus Logic's CobraNet Technology

Stardraw.com is pleased to announce that it has incorporated support for Cirrus Logic Inc's (Nasdaq: CRUS) CobraNet™ technology into their new, award-winning application, Stardraw Control.

Stardraw Control is a software-based solution designed expressly to control systems that contain diverse products. It generates standalone, customized control programs that can manage and monitor any type of addressable equipment from any manufacturer using any protocol over any communications infrastructure. This approach frees systems integrators from closed or proprietary architectures and applications, offering instead the ability to create a single application that can control many different products with as much or as little complexity as the end user needs.

Cirrus Logic's CobraNet technology is a leading standard for delivering uncompressed digital audio and control data over Ethernet networks. By supporting the CobraNet protocol deployed on Cirrus Logic's ‘CobraNet Silicon Series' ICs, Stardraw Control can add significant value to integrators and contractors implementing CobraNet networks. The ease of use, intuitive design and solid functionality of the Stardraw Control application will be another enhancement to the growing comprehensiveness of the CobraNet total solution.

David Parker, Cirrus Logic's senior marketing manager for CobraNet products is enthusiastic about the development. "For a long time, systems integrators have been waiting for a total system control solution through a single application that's easy to configure and operate," said Parker. "With Stardraw Control's software, manufacturers will now find it easier and more cost effective than ever to develop simple, flexible, and powerful digital audio network systems that leverage the digital audio networking technology found within Cirrus Logic's CobraNet interface processor ICs."

CobraNet technology is available through the CobraNet Silicon Series of ICs from Cirrus Logic, which include the CS1810xx family of CobraNet interface processor ICs as well as the new CS4961xx family of ICs that feature the CobraNet interface processor plus a powerful customer programmable 32-bit, fixed point, audio DSP core.

Like other Stardraw applications, Stardraw Control is fast, powerful, flexible and easy to use; with a drag-drop interface and intuitive design environment, installers are able to configure systems and control them without having to write a single line of code. Generated control programs are portable and can run on any Windows-enabled device, from PC to PDA, or Mac, Linux and more. Stardraw Control can communicate with and control any device using any protocol including TCP/IP, RS232, DMX, IR, EtherSound, infra-red, UDP, SNMP, QSControl.Net and CobraNet.
