Stardraw.net
goes Live
The world's first web-based CAD system is now live
and can be seen at
www.stardraw.net. It is a suite of
applications that allow you to design integrated systems
using an on-line library of over 30,000 symbols.
Stardraw.net represents the introduction of web-based
technology that incorporates tools and data for all of
the niche markets addressed by Stardraw's conventional
software packages including Stardraw Audio, Stardraw AV,
Stardraw Lighting 2D, Stardraw Professional and Stardraw
Radio, in a single, low-cost package.
Stardraw MD David Snipp explains "Our conventional
applications have established the sorts of tools that
integrators find easy to use and valuable for system
design and documentation. The web-based applications
have been written from the ground up to provide
comparable functionality, but are designed to run within
a web page - this means they're instantly available,
always up-to-date and far cheaper for the end-user. This
is brand new technology, a brand new business model, and
Stardraw is excited to be the first company to our
knowledge anywhere in the world to offer full CAD
capability via the web."
Where traditional software is shipped on CD and
installed, Stardraw.net is delivered to your browser
through HTML pages, using tools which download
themselves as and when they are needed. Through an
intelligent client/server split, drawing operations and
rendering are executed on the client side for speed, and
symbols libraries, product information etc are stored in databases
on the server. Advantages of the client/server system
are that every user will always be using the most
current software and symbols available, and even if your
internet connection is broken, you can continue to work
and save your files locally.
Snipp continued, “We are showing this new technology
to manufacturers and other corporate clients who are
looking for flexible, scalable, custom software
solutions. The beauty of a centralised, web-delivered
application is that it's very easy to maintain and
update, and it can link to realtime data like pricing,
stock levels and special offers. Our first custom
web-based application, PanelBuilder, which went live on
the RCI Custom website in June has already been a huge
hit. The aspect of Stardraw.net that astonishes
our clients most is its ease of implementation - they
can offer the application in their own websites by
adding a single line of HTML, and there's no impact on
bandwidth or storage required on their server.”
